Maybe you planned your trip to Noosa because of its world-famous surf breaks. Or maybe you had no idea Noosa had world-famous surf breaks. But once you’re in town, the laid-back surf culture is impossible to miss, and just as impossible to resist. You can’t go a weekend here without feeling the urge to pick up the board.
As a World Surfing Reserve, the region is officially recognised for its diverse and beautiful point breaks. So whether you’re here to hang ten, hang five or hang out (on the shore), the right waves are waiting for you in Noosa.
Here’s our list of the best surfing (and surf-watching) spots in town.
It’s all in the name. First Point is the first place longboarders go to catch waves in Noosa. Located right at the end of Hastings Street, it has smaller waves that are great for learning to surf. It’s a prime spot and everyone knows it, so count on some crowds when you go.
Located an easy 20 minute walk from the entrance of Noosa National Park, this is the secluded spot surfers dream about. If you’re an experienced surfer, head to Tea Tree for a private sunrise surf. If you’re not, this beach is still pretty perfect for an afternoon picnic and stroll. Make sure to check out the rock pools to meet some of the local marine wildlife.
Granite Bay faces a different direction than most of the other point breaks in Noosa, so if the swells aren’t too er, swell on the other beaches, give this one a try. Experienced surfers can find waves well over 10 feet, but as the name suggests, Granite Bay can get pretty rocky, so stick to the beach if you’re still a beginner.
Any of these spots are worth a trip just for a little peace of mind and sand between the toes. But if the waves are calling your name, book a surf lesson with our friends at Noosa Learn to Surf. Make some new friends in a group lesson, or enjoy a romantic day on the waves with a private session for two.
